However, specifically highlighting on the book-inspired films this time; let's get a detailed check on the films that have been majorly adapted from a book or novel in the year 2013.

Directed by Abhishek Kapoor, Kai Po Che is a dramatic venture based on three friends, inspired from Chetan Bhagat's bestseller, The Three Mistakes Of My Life. Having introduced one of the phenomenal actors like Sushant Singh Rajput, the film further stars Rajkumar Yadav and Amit Sadh in lead roles, whereas the female space is lent to actress Amrita Puri. Kai Po Che released on the 22nd of February 2013 and counting its box-office claims, the film was well perceived for its execution, simplicity and details, both by the audience as well as by the critics.

Ek Thi Daayan

Directed by Kannan Iyer, Ek Thi Daayan is a supernatural horror thriller adapted from the short story, Mobius Trips, by Mukul Sharma. Starring Emraan Hashmi, Huma Qureshi, Konkona Sen Sharma and Kalki Koechlin in lead roles, the film released on the 19th of April, 2013. Counting its box office returns, Ek Thi Daayan was initially perceived quite positively, but on an overall basis, it lasted only as an average scorer.

Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, Lootera is a period romantic drama film, partly based on author, O. Henry's 1907 short story, The Last Leaf. Starring Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha in lead roles, the film released on the 5th of July, 2013. In terms of its perception at the box office, Lootera received highly positive response from the critics and successfully had a long lasting impression on the ticket windows.

B.A. Pass

Directed by Ajay Bahl, B.A Pass is a neo noir film inspired from 2009 short story, The Railway Aunty, by Mohan Sikka. Starring Shilpa Shukla, Shadab Kamal, Rajesh Sharma, and Dibyendu Bhattacharya in lead roles, the film released on 30th of August 2013. In terms of its box office perceptions, B.A. Pass garnered an average score at the box-office, but received praises from critics.

Shootout At Wadala

Directed by Sanjay Gupta, Shootout At Wadala marks to be a prequel to 2007 flick Shootout At Lokhandwala. This second edition of the Shootout series dramatized the first-ever registered encounter by Mumbai police, of gangster Manya Surve, that was dated back on 11 January 1982, Mumbai. Based on book Dongri To Dubai, the film features John Abraham, Anil Kapoor, Kangna Ranaut, Tusshar Kapoor, Manoj Bajpai and Sonu Sood in lead roles. Shootout At Wadala released on 3rd May 2013 and undoubtedly was declared to be a box-office hit.

Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela

Directed and produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ramleela is a romantic-drama film inspired from the famous Shakespeare's story, Romeo and Juliet, set in the violent times. Starring Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone in lead roles, the film released on the 15th of November, 2013. In terms of its critical reception, Ram-Leela was majorly appreciated for its narration, set-up and casting. The film was a hit at the box office and left a brilliant impression massively.
