10. Naam

The movie was released in 1986, right at the time when the youth of India were wondering about how to make their inroads into the other foreign countries, with Dubai being on the top of their list. That one was a very relevant movie for that time, and Kumar Gaurav and Sanjay Dutt gave a stunning portrayal of people who were stuck in the rut because of various reasons. One of the best movies for Sanjay Dutt, and before Kaante, Kumar Gaurav was known for this movie.

9. Saajan

Sanjay Dutt goes Saajanromantic with this movie, where he costarred with Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit in a unique love story. Sanjay Dutt is the adopted son of a very rich man, who has Salman Khan as a brother. The two fall in love with the same woman, and the rest of the story is all about who will sacrifice their love for the betterment of their brother. The movie had an interesting twist to it at the end. While both the brothers were bent on sacrificing their love for the girl, the girl finally asks whether anyone has asked her about who she would like to marry?

The movie was one of the biggest hits of Sanjay Dutt, Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit's career and the biggest blockbuster of that year. Saajan is still remembered for the great performances that the three gave, and the songs. It is because of the chemistry that Sanjay and Salman shared in Saajan that they were offered some more movies in the nineties and the double ohs. It is also interesting to note that the two will now be seen together in the television reality show Big Boss, where they will be playing the hosts.

8. Gumrah

Sanjay Dutt and Sridevi come togetherGumrah for the first time in a movie about illegal immigration, international crime and a damsel in distress. In Pitaah, Sanjay Dutt plays a simVaastavple villager whose daughter is sexually assaulted by the powerful Thakur clan, and he extracts revenge. Pitaah had a very good song, and the evolution of a common, weak villager to a strong, avenging angel fit well for Sanjay Dutt. This one is a little known movie because it did not have the juggernaut of PR like the others had,but it is definitely a must add to your DVD collection.

This listing is for both the movie because while Vaastav was a runaway commercial hit, Pitaah was not, but they have the same grit and angst that Sanjay Dutt is known to portray so well. In Vaastav, Sanjay Dutt plays the son of a poor man, who falls into the life of crime.

Top Fourteen Rajesh Khanna Movies

Rajesh Khanna is described by many as the original superstar of Bollywood, and with all due respect, Rajesh Khanna was the first actor who received the by now legendary letters written in female blood. Rajesh Khanna started his career in the late seventies, and went on to work in movies till the late double ohs. Rajesh Khanna may also be the Bollywood actor to have made the most number of special appearances and cameos in movies - of course, they were not known as cameos back then, but they still were worth Bollywood gold.

However, his last movie, Wajood, was a debacle at the box office, and many trade pundits and industry insiders considered that the movie was made just because Rajesh Khanna's name was attached to it. However, Khanna has been attached to some very prestigious movies, and here are the top ten of them.

14. SoutenSouten

Souten was one of Rajesh Khanna's newer movies, and was made by Sawan Kumar, before he was known as Sawan Kumar Tak. The movie starred Rajesh Khanna, Padmini Kolhapure and Tina Munim. In Souten, Rajesh Khanna played the role of Shyam, who is happily married to Rukmini, except for the fact that she is not too keen on motherhood. While their marriage worsens, Shyam meets a younger woman, and how the three get on their lives forms the rest of the movie.

Also, it should be a compliment for Rajesh Khanna to act in a movie titled Souten, which in itself was a bad word at that point of time. The movie was not revolutionary, but back in the eighties, making and acting in a movie about an affair was something that only a Yash Chopra could do, or Rajesh Khanna.

Souten was made by Sawan Kumar Tak, who was known for making female centric movies back then. Rajesh Khanna, Padmini Kolhapure and Tina Munim gave credence to a movie that more or less known as a social/drama back in those days. Rajesh Khanna should be lauded for just appearing in the movie, because this was the first time that a superstar made a main protagonist appearance in a female oriented movie. Souten was also famous for its music track, with 'Shayad Meri Shaadi Ka Khayal' still runs on some music channels.

13. Aap Ki KasamAap Ki Kasam

Aap Ki Kasam was made by J Om Prakash, and was written by Ram Kelkar and Ramesh Pant. It starred Rajesh Khanna as a husband who doubted his wife's fidelity after she becomes friendly with a character played by Sanjeev Kumar. The movie is one of the many films where the character ages on screen, and does a good job out of it all. This one is famous for the song 'Zindagi ka Safar', which still runs on some music channels in India.

The movie starred Sanjeev Kumar, Mumtaz and Rajesh Khanna. This is the only movie in which Rajesh Khanna and Sanjeev Kumar worked together, but it was one of the many which starred the silver couple, Rajesh Khanna and Mumtaz.

This one was also one of the many movies in which Kishore Kumar sung for Rajesh Khanna, and many say that Kishore Kumar created the superstar that is Rajesh Khanna. Some of the other successful songs that this movie had was 'Karwate Badal Te Rahein'.

12. Fiffty FifftyFiffty Fiffty

This 1981 movie starred Rajesh Khanna and Tina Munim, and had Rajesh Khanna just show off his middle aged paunch. Fiffty Fiffty is a successful and interesting movie, because it had everything that was wanted in the typical Bollywood movies of the eighties. There was a superstar, there was a childhood switcheroo, and there was also a treasure - adding the conman/conwoman aspect to it just made the movie more interesting.

In the movie, Rajesh Khanna plays Kishan, the son of a rich Thakur, who is switched places by an evil, conniving Munimji, just so his son can lead a life of riches. Kishan is then left on the big bad streets of Mumbai, and becomes a master burglar. Here, he meets another burglar - a female one this time - and they decide to work together and divide their profits fifty fifty. Of course, the female burglar, Mary, has other plans, and Kishan soon becomes a pawn in a game about confidence.

The movie was directed by Shomu Mukherjee, and starred Rajesh Khanna, Tina Munim, Om Shivpuri, Ranjeet and Kader Khan.

11. BawarchiBawarchi

Bawarchi is a quintessential Bollywood humor movie, and was made by the then comedy baron, Hrishikesh Mukherjee. The movie centered on the life and times of a family, which was famous for not being able to retain a cook for more than three months, also the family is famous for their squabbles and fights.

In this comes Raghu, a strange young man who applies for the job of a cook, and soon brings the family together. Of course, not everything is as simple as it seems, and we find out that Raghu has a murky little past. The movie was actually a remake of a Bengali movie, made by Tapan Sinha, and some of its plot point was then taken by the Govinda starrer, Hero No. 1. This is one of the best clean comedies to come out of Bollywood, and is still counted among the top ten comedy movies in Bollywood.

The movie starred Rajesh Khanna, Jaya Bhaduri, Usha Kiran, Asrani and others. It was directed by Hrishikesh Mukerji.

10. Agar Tum Na HoteAgar Tum Na Hote

Agar Tum Na Hote is another classic Rajesh Khanna movie, which was all about love, losing and retribution. It starred Raj Babbar, Rajesh Khanna, Rekha and others. The story of this movie was quite different than the various love stories that were in the market at that time. Rajesh Khanna plays a rich industrialist who loses his wife during the birth of his only daughter. The daughter, pining for mother's love becomes kind of a revolt.

At around this time, Rajesh Khanna meets a young photographer, whom he hires for his campaign. That photographer meets a woman, and falls in love with her. Interestingly, the woman is a striking resemblance of the industrialist's dead wife, and he promptly falls in love with her. Things take a weird turn when the photographer has an accident, and is crippled for life, and the industrialist and the model come close to each other.

In an era when movies had their titles in a song, this movie had a favorite song, 'Agar Tum Na Hote', which was created by R D Burman, and the lyrics were given by Gulshan Bawra.

9. Red RoseRed Rose

This is it, the movie that made Rajesh Khanna famous among the people who wanted more than the drama, romance and usual thrills that Bollywood gave at that time. In Red Rose, Rajesh Khanna played a psychopathic killer who was on the loose - and the character was created before the Ted Bundys and the other killers were even known to Indian audiences. This was one of Rajesh Khanna's later movies, and his 'kaka' hairstyle had taken the place of his earlier lopsided haircut. Many think that this is a B grade movie, and it was also banned because of so many controversial scenes.

It is a fact that Rajesh Khanna, at that time, was not at the peak of his romantic image, which he had created with Haathi Mere Saathi, Kati Patang, etc. However, for the old school public, the very fact that a mainstream lovey dovey actor was playing the role of a psychopathic, serial killer was enough to create a buzz for the movie.

8. Avataar/SwargSwarg

Rajesh Khanna might be one of the very few Bollywood actors who knew when to end a good thing, and he promptly went into character roles in the eighties. In the eighties, he starred in two swash bucklers at the box office, and one of them even had him in the main role, but he was not romancing a leading lady in this one. In Swarg, Rajesh Khanna played a rich landlord who takes to a young man who comes from the village as his house help, much to the chagrin of his younger brothers - who are basically good for nothings.

Soon, the younger brothers and their wives hoodwink the elder brother of his business and the house, and it is the adopted young man who comes to the rescue of the landlord. The movie starred Govinda as the villager. This was the only film in which Govinda and Rajesh Khanna worked together, and was one of the biggest successes of the eighties.

In Avataar, Rajesh Khanna legally gave up his rich, flamboyant, loverboy character and played the role of a middle aged man who had been had by his family. The movie starred Shabana Azmi as his wife, and was one of the first movies to have a middle aged, married character as the main protagonist. This was the movie that brought about a surge of family dramas in Bollywood.

7. Ittefaq

Ittefaq was the first murder mystery/thriller that Rajesh Khanna acted in. The movie had him play a man who is being tried for killing his wife. However, he escapes from prison and takes a young woman hostage. He stays in her house, warding off others who come to her house, and everything is going hunky dory, until Rajesh Khanna finds a dead body in the house. The movie can be considered to be an inspiration for the Urmila Matondkar thriller 'Kaun'.

6. Haathi Mere SaathiHaathi Mere Saathi

Haathi Mere Saathi was the movie that made Rajesh Khanna the unequivocal superstar of Bollywood. The movie had a very different plot, something that would be considered to be quite innate today, but it surely tugged at people's heartstrings back then. Rajesh Khanna plays a young man who is somewhat of an animal lover and runs a small circus of his own. Things become difficult when he marries, and his wife thinks that he is spending too much time with his animal friends. It worsens when his wife gets the misunderstanding that the elephant -hence the title - friend tried to kill the child, when all the elephant was doing was saving the child from a snake.

Many consider this movie to be one of the best movies made for children. It is also one of the few movies that won an award from the SPCA, the society of prevention of cruelty of animals, and is still remembered for the various scenes between man and animal - something that was a first for that time.

5. Mere Jeevan SaathiMere Jeevan Saathi

Rajesh Khanna has acted in some movies which were basically the template for the future love stories in Bollywood. In Mere Jeevan Saathi, Rajesh Khanna played a talented artist, who falls in love with a doctor who has just returned from London. Of course, there are some hijinks in their love story. However, the two work it out and just when you think that all is well; the guy is in an accident and loses his eyesight. When he recuperates and returns, he finds out that his lover has married someone else - yes, women were turned around like footballs during that time - at least in the movies.

Once again, Mere Jeevan Saathi was the biggest hit of the year, and had songs by R D Burman. The movie starred Rajesh Khanna and Tanuja, who had become something of a couple after Haathi Mere Saathi.

4. Amar DeepAmar Deep

Amar Deep is another movie that launched Rajesh Khanna's career right up there, once again. The movie starred Rajesh Khanna, Shabana Azmi, Deven Verma and Vinod Mehra. It starred Rajesh Khanna as the adopted son of a criminal don, who gives up a life of crime, but the amount of wealth that his father has amassed - and which goes to him directly - makes him arrogant and obstinate.

He soon falls in love with the daughter of a man working in his house. But the daughter has already fallen in love with someone else. Now, Rajesh Khanna's character hires the man and sends him to such work that he remains outside the house most of the time. Why he does it and what repercussions this has on the lives of the three people form the rest of the movie.

3. AdhikarAdhikar

Once again, a template movie for love stories that was to come. Rajesh Khanna plays Vishal, a rich jockey who gets married to Jyoti, someone whom he has known all his life. While Vishal becomes richer and successful, his married life falls apart. Soon, Jyoti leaves Vishal and Vishal brings up their daughter alone. When his daughter grows up, Jyoti reenters their lives, and the rest of the movie deals with whether the three reconcile or not.

This movie was another massive success of the year. The movie starred Rajesh Khanna, Tina Munim, Zarina Wahab, Bindu and others. The movie was directed by Vijay Sadanah and produced by Jawaharlal Bafna and Vasant Joshi.

2. Kati PatangKati Patang

Kati Patang starred the Box Office gold couple of Rajesh Khanna and Asha Parekh. Asha Parekh plays a young woman whose uncle is marrying her off in an arranged marriage. Seeing this, she runs away from home, only to find that the man that she loves is romancing another woman. She now returns to her uncle, but sees that he has died due to the shock of her leaving the house. Nowhere to go now, she meets her widowed friend at the train, and after a train accident, she takes the place of the widow, only to meet the man whom she was supposed to marry - Rajesh Khanna.

The movie is well known for the songs and was one of the first ones to bring item songs, in this case Bindu's 'Mera Naam' to Bollywood. Rajesh Khanna was a dashing, flamboyant personality at that time and Asha Parekh was a killer as a coy beauty.

1. Anand

This was the movie that once again heralded Rajesh Khanna into superstardom. It starred Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan, and was more or less centered around the two. Amitabh Bachchan played a doctor, and Rajesh Khanna played Anand, a person who brought fun and happiness into everyone's life, until one day he dies.

The movie is considered to be one of cinema's classics, and is known to once again begin the trend of the main hero dying onscreen. Though the death itself is not portrayed onscreen, the final sequence where Amitabh Bachchan founded his best friend dead through a tape recording is heart rending enough. Some say that Rajesh Khanna gave his first scene not via his acting histrionics, but actually his voice, which reverberated through the room when he spoke to his friends via the radio, saying that he knew he would die, and was just biding time for it.

Gandhi (1982)

The list has to be start with this movie, which is although considered to be the as one of the finest biographical take on Mahatma Gandhi. Ironically it took a foreign filmmaker (Richard Attenborough) and a foreign actor Ben Kingsley to make this best movie on Indian independence and the Indian freedom fighter. Moreover, Ben Kingsley also went on to win an Oscar for this particular movie, where his performance as Mahatma Gandhi has been praised all over and is being believed to be the best till date.

Lage Raho Munnabhai (2006)

After Gandhi (1982), one can also never forget Rajkumar Hirani's take on Mahatma Gandhi, in the company of his most popular and entertaining movie 'Lage Raho Munnabhai'. In this movie, the role of Gandhiji was played by a well-known Marathi actor Dilip Prabhavalkar. This was the first movie that showed Gandhi in a modern background, and was not showcased in some story related to his freedom fight against British rule. The movie was very smartly showcased, with respect to Gandhiji's several teachings, and thus modified it to present in the contemporary world by introducing the perception of Gandhigiri.

Gandhi Se Mahatma Tak (1996)

Shyam Benegal's much loved actor Rajit Kapoor enacted the role of Gandhi in Benegal's bilingual biography which was titled as 'The Making of Mahatma' in English, and 'Gandhi Se Mahatma Tak' in Hindi. The movie had a quite dissimilar viewpoint on Gandhi as it presented the evolution of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi from being a lawyer in South Africa to eventually turning out to be a Mahatma. The film's title was therefore given as 'Gandhi Se Mahatma Tak'.

Gandhi Se Mahatma TakHey Ram (2000)

Earlier Mohan Gokhale was signed for enacting the coveted role of Gandhi in Kamal Hassan's movie 'Hey Ram'. However sadly, because of his early demise, Kamal Hassan had to then choose for another actor to play the role of Mahatma Gandhi. Versatile actor Naseeruddin Shah was then chosen to enact the role of Gandhiji in the movie, and to be honest, he had carried out a fabulous job in it. To be precise and straightforward, he was in the midst of the first actors to present Gandhiji's Gujarati tone of voice and body language in an accurate manner.

Hey Ram PosterGandhi My father (2007)

The last Gandhi's character played on the screen until now was Darshan Zariwala, who played the role of Bapu in Anil Kapoor produced movie 'Gandhi My Father'. The movie had the most exceptional take on Gandhiji as it was focused more on his personal life, rather than the political one. It actually showed how in spite of being the 'Father of nation', Gandhiji couldn't be a good father to his son Harilal Gandhi. Though the movie received mixed responses from all over, but to some extent everybody liked Darshan's portrayal in 'Gandhi My Father'.

At 80 years Yash Chopra had still not forgotten the meaning of love. And what more he was still able to connect and associate with this wonderful emotion in the way the people wished for.

In the year 1959 Yash Chopra directed his first film Dhool Ka Phool starring Mala Sinha, Rajendra Kumar and Leena Chitnis. This film came across as modern and unconventional for the conservative era during the teething years of Indian cinema. Nonetheless Yash followed his instinct and went ahead with the film. This film eventually became one of the top most successful films of the year. Since then there was no looking back for Yashji who over the years got the sobriquet of the King of Romance in Bollywood.

The King of Romance has an expansive treasury of excellent films and it is indeed a herculean task to select a handful of them. Each film made by the talented and dynamic master of Indian cinema is a masterpiece in itself.

Yash Chopra

Unfortunately Yash Chopra succumbed to Dengue and now the world has lost one of its most valuable and precious gem. But as mentioned in the film Mohabbatein (a film which was produced by Yash Chopra), "Marr bhi jaayen pyaar wale, mit bhi jayeen pyaar wale Zinda rehti hain unki mohabbatein" and Yash Chopras mohabbat (love) will remain with us forever.

1. Dhool Ka Phool (1959):

Treading on unsafe grounds Yash Chopra ventured into his directorial debut with this film. The story revolved around the sensitive relations between Hindus and Muslims. The story revolves around a Muslim bringing up an `illegitimate' Hindu child and featured classic song, Tu Hindu banega na Musalman banega, insaan ki aulaad hai, insaan banega. This song became very popular and carried the message of secularism.

Dhool Ka Phool (1959)2. Dharmputra (1961):

The success of his first film as a director motivated the director to carry forward his venture based on the Hindu Muslim theme. Dharmputra was set across the backdrop of the pre independence era and revolves around two families (Hindu and Muslim). Their sacrifices for each other and their emotional bonding are depicted in a commendable manner. Once more starring Mala Sinha in the lead role opposite Shashi Kapoor, Rehman, Tabassum and Nirupa Roy this film too gained a lot of appreciation and was high in the emotional content.

Dharmputra (1961)3. Waqt (1965):

Waqt was a film where Yash Chopra ventured into the multi starrer zone. The story of the film was indeed thought provoking and taught us never to take anything for granted. Lala Kedarnath played by Balraj Sahni, the main protagonist was seen as a conceit person who is proud of his three sons and his flourishing business. He does not believe in destiny. Unfortunately when hit by ill fortune he loses everything including his family. The years that followed were full of turmoil and turbulence and in the end Lala Kedarnath learnt the true meaning of life and became a believer of destiny. The movie has many moments which will move the viewers to tears. It is also known for the evergreen song Aye Meri Zohra Jabeen sung by Manna Dey.

Waqt (1965)4. Aadmi Aur Insaan (1969):

This film is indeed very special for many reasons. The first being that this is the first and only film in which Yash Chopra and Dharmendra have worked together. The movie was a typical Bollywood fare of a love triangle and the friendship and loyalty between a rich brat and a poor guy. Another reason for this film to be special is its songs which are sung by legendary singers such as Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammed Rafi and Asha Bhosle.

5. Ittefaq (1969):

In this film Yash Chopra ventured into a different genre namely that of a crime thriller. This time too Yash Chopra took an unconventional and bold decision where he did not include any songs and dances in the film. Yash Chopra had won the Filmfare Best Director Award for this film which starred Rajesh Khanna, Nanda, Bindu, Madan Puri et al.

6. Daag (1973):

Once more Yash Chopra won the Best Director Award for this film which was a super hit and had earned a lot of revenue at the box office. Once more the star cast is par excellence. The dialogs of the film were surpass excellent and depicted the conflicting ideologies of the two brothers in an apt manner. Till date dialogs such as "Mere Paas Maa Hai" and others are remembered. Deewaar broke all barriers and won loads of awards by Filmfare. It is still one of the most evergreen films of Indian cinema and has retained its charm till date.

9. Kabhie Kabhie (1976):

Banking on the success of his previous hit Deewar, Yash Chopra selected the winning pair Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor in the lead roles. Starring Rakhee and Wahida Rehmaan along with other stars this film was a complete romantic love story which spanned across generations. Kabhie Kabhie was an instant hit and won loads of awards. Its song Kabhie Kabhie has still retained its soothing romantic essence and is sung even now. Another song "Mein Pal Do Pal Ka Shayar Hoon" too is potent with meaning and has a melodious tune.

10. Trishul (1978):

Yash Chopra had become a brand name by now and once more he ventured into a multi starrer project with big names such as Amitabh, Shashi Kapoor, Sanjeev Kumar, Rakhee, Hema Malini, Poonam Dillon, Prem Chopra, Waheeda Rehmaan and others. Trishul has inspired present time director Anurag Kashyap and you will see reflections of Trishul in his film Gangs of Wasseypur.

11. Kaala Patthar (1979):

Yash Chopra had made Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor into a successful team and banking on this winning team he ventured into Kaala Patthar. This time Yashiji also added Shatrughan Sinha in his film. But unfortunately Kaala Patthar failed to create ripples in the box office.

This film brought to the forefront the real life situation of the super stars Amitabh and Rekha who were having an affair. The theme of the film was bold considering the conservative times and the extramarital relationships and the feelings were very well depicted in the film. The songs Rang Barse is evergreen and no Holi celebration is complete without this song playing in the background. Other songs such as Dekha Ek Khwab by Kishore Kumar and Neela Aasmaan are still loved by the masses.

13. Mashaal (1984):

14. Faasle (1985):

The film starred Sunil Dutt, Rekha, Farooq Shaikh, Deepti Naval, Raj Kiran, Rohan Kapoor, Farha, Sushma Seth and Alok Nath. But this film of Yash Chopra was doomed right from the beginning thanks to the lame storyline.

Starring Rajesh Khanna, Hema Malini, Rishi Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Anupam Kher the film was a typical rich falls in love with the poor and the social divide. 17. Lamhe (1991):

Lamhe is one of the most precious gems by Yash Chopra. Starring Sridevi in a double role alongside Anil Kapoor the movie treads on unconventional grounds. Although it was a hit overseas there was a segment of viewers who were appalled by the implied incest angle to the story. Nonetheless Lamhe is a film made with a lot of class and finesse.

18. Parampara (1992):

Yash Chopra had launched many new comers and with Parampara he gave the chance of debut to Saif Ali Khan. Although the film starred Amir Khan, Sunil Dutt, Raveena Tandon, Neelam Kothari, yet it was a box office dud.

19. Darr (1993):

For the first time Yash Chopra was directing Shahrukh Khan. It was due to his efforts that Shahrukh became the King of Bollywood. Their association was one of great reverence. Shahrukh changed the parameters of the industry and for the first time a hero was seen playing a negative role with such great convention. The possessed lover obsessed image was one which was created with a lot of convention.

20. Dil To Pagal Hai (1997):

Shahrukh Khan and Yash Chopra was a team with a midas touch. It was a musical romantic film. Starring Madhuri Dixit, Karishma Kapoor and Shahrukh Khan along with Akshay Kumar the film won many awards and was an instant hit.

21.Veer Zaara (2004):

Once more Shahrukh and Yash created the magic of love; this time across borders. Starring opposite Preity Zinta the duo managed to create magic with their long standing love and how they manage to survive in two warring countries namely India and Pakistan.

22. Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012):

This movie was supposed to be indeed special. For one, it is the first movie to be directed by Yash Chopra after a long hiatus of eight years. Second he had graciously bowed out of film making and this was supposed to be his last directorial venture. Jab Tak Hain Jaan stars Shahrukh Khan opposite Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif. This movie will be released on 13th November 2012.

Although we were aware that Yash Chopra would not be directing any more films, but that destiny had other plans and he would not live to see how his last venture turns out is a news which was totally unexpected and has left everyone shocked.

Yash Chopra will be remembered by the Bollywood fraternity and fans whose lives he has touched through the emotions in his films. Rest In Peace.

10 Biggest Box Office Failures of 2012

The box office and the masses are highly unpredictable and the makers cannot rely on any fixed success formula. (If any such formula does exist)

Movies which were meant to draw the masses have failed miserably and have garnered huge losses for the makers. Ironically even the conventional themed movies such as Heroine, Players et al. failed to impress. The downside is movies with new and innovative themes such as Aiyya and Agent Vinod too could not hike their USP despite having a strong star cast and promotion. Shirish Kunder who had mocked fun of other maker's film ventures too was left shamefaced with the turnout of this film Joker. In simple terms Joker made him seem like a Joker himself.

Anyways without being too harsh on the makers we have compiled a list of the biggest box office failures of 2012:

Heroine

Being a film by Madhur Bhandarkar there was great anticipation amongst the masses. However sadly it had nothing new to offer and even Kareena's amazing presence failed to draw the masses. The movie was a complete dud in terms of box office.

10 Biggest Box Office Failures of 2012

Aiyyaa

The music of Aiyyaa surely filled the makers with a lot of dreams of success. However this creation by Sachin Kundalkar had to bear the brunt of having a lame storyline. Even Rani Mukerji's jhatkas and matkas could not shake the box office much and the makers had to face a huge loss and setback.

10 Biggest Box Office Failures of 2012

Joker

Film maker Shirish Kunder surely made a joke of a film on a huge budget. Things turned for the worst when the main star Akshay Kumar himself did not put in any efforts to promote the film. The outcome was there for all to see, a movie which was joke by itself.

10 Biggest Box Office Failures of 2012

Agent Vinod

Agent Vinod was welcomed with a lot of anticipation as the lead couple was the real life pair Saif Ali Khan and Kareena. However this suspense thriller failed to captivate the viewers and led to a loss of money for the makers.

10 Biggest Box Office Failures of 2012

Teri Meri Kahaani

The movie Teri Meri Kahaani saw the ex lovers Priyanka Chopra and Shahid Kapoor sharing screen space. Although the movie had a great storyline which spread across three ages, yet the final masterpiece failed miserably.

10 Biggest Box Office Failures of 2012

Dangerous Ishhq

The viewers wished for something out of the box from this 3D offering by Vikram Bhatt. However even though this movie marked the comeback for the Bollywood star Karisma Kapoor, yet it fizzled out within the first week itself due to lack of response.

10 Biggest Box Office Failures of 2012

Department

Ram Gopal Verma surely should be awarded for dishing out flops after flops each year. The presence of Big B and Sanju Baba too failed to woo the masses and the movie was a disaster at the box office.

10 Biggest Box Office Failures of 2012

Players

Touted as a thriller filled with sudden twists and turns the movie featured the sexy Bipasha in a red bikini. Yet this sultry presence and action packed plot failed to entertain the masses who were glad to give this movie a miss. So, players sure played their game in a mistaken manner.

10 Biggest Box Office Failures of 2012

Jodi Breakers

Jodi Breakers starred the super urban sex siren Bipasha across the homely and modest Madhavan. This unusual pair however failed to draw the crowds and this Jodi sure broke the hearts and dreams of the makers.

10 Biggest Box Office Failures of 2012

Ekk Deewana Tha

Although the star cast boasted of new comers Amy Jackson and Prateik Babbar the movie surely did not succeed in making the viewers deewana and the movie just vanished into thin air before making its mark.

10 Biggest Box Office Failures of 2012

However despite having a string of success and failures the year 2012 was indeed an eventful one for the Bollywood industry and we hope that the coming year is even more fruitful.

Three Best Buddy Relations Which Went Sour in 2012

The Bollywood industry is highly volatile and relationships and dynamics change with every passing second. Box office and the success quotient often determine the relationship quotient as well in this industry which is extremely materialist and believes in cashing in on every opportunity.

The year 2012 too witnessed some strong bonds being subjected to rough patches and best buddies who had drifted apart. Three of these have apparently left the entire film fraternity and fans shell shocked. Here we reveal some details of the same.

Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar

Karan Johar holds King Khan Shahrukh in high esteem and even calls him an elder brother and a family member. SRK too reciprocates the same emotions and includes Karan's name as one of his own family. However there were rumors that all was actually not rosy between both of them. Although both of them rubbish the rumors, actions do speak louder than words and Karan's perusing the other Khans of B-town as well as speculating including Ranbir Kapoor for his next venture have proved that there is no smoke without fire.

Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar

The Bollywood Badshaah too did not help in promoting the movie Student Of The Year although he himself was the producer. This did not go down too well with the filmmaker. Apparently the bone of contention between both of them is Shahrukh's growing friendship with Priyanka Chopra with whom Karan had minor fallout earlier. However they both have buried the hatched and patched up. Although both Karan and Shahrukh Khan are both cordial with each other, yet there seems to be a lot of love lost. Will their wounds heal or will they turn septic in the coming year? Only time will tell.

Kajol and Aditya Chopra

Kajol has been a part of the longest running movie DDLJ (Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge) and she shared a strong comrade with Aditya Chopra. However sparks begin to fly when Ajay Devgn had a heated dispute with the Chopra camp over the film Jab Tak Hai Jaan (JTHJ). The difference was palpable and Aditya broke all relations with Kajol. Things took the turn for the worst when Kajol was not included in the guest list for the premiere show of JTHJ. Although both the ex friends live diagonally opposite to each other, yet there is so much of love lost that both of them time their entry and exit to avoid even glancing at the other's direction.

Kajol and Aditya Chopra

Akshay Kumar and Farah Khan

Shahrukh and Farah Khan were best buddies, however things began cooling off and eventually she was left out of his close knit group of buddies. This is when Akshay Kumar entered into a budding friendship with her and they shared a strong professional relationship. After the success of Tees Maar Khan, Akshay promised to be a part of Shirish Kunder's next venture Joker. Albeit just before the movie was scheduled to release Akshay drifted apart and gave the promotion a complete miss. This did not go down too well with Farah who came to her hubby's rescue. She easily forgot all the times when Akshay Kumar had bailed her out of trouble when she got the cold shoulder treatment from Shahrukh.

However with things better with best buddy, Farah has conveniently moved on from Khiladi Kumar.

Akshay Kumar and Farah Khan

Only time will tell if these best friends will get back together or not. And even if they do, is it due to genuine love and emotion or is it going to be powered by some ulterior motive. Knowing Bollywood, we can never be sure, can we.
