The year 2013 marks the completion of 100 years of Indian Cinema. And it's the same year we saw a lot of sequels that released, but somehow only few did exceptionally well at the Box-Office. Some of the sequels that were released this year were - Dhoom 3, Krrish 3, Murder 3, Race 2, Once Upon a Time in Mumbai 2, Aashiqui 2, Shootout at Wadala, Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster Returns, Grand Masti, Satya 2 and Yamla Pagla Deewana 2.
Let us look a look at the top five sequels of the year 2013.Race 2Directed by Abbas-Mustan, Race 2 was the sequel to the edge-of-the-seat thriller 'Race'. Featuring Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone in lead, the movie also starred John Abraham, Jacqueline Fernandez, Anil Kapoor and Ameesha Patel in their respective roles. Race 2 opened to mixed reviews from critics, but got highly positive response at the Box Office. The film was the first one to enter the worldwide Bollywood's 100 crore club in 2013.
Aashiqui 2 is the sequel of 1990 musical blockbuster Aashiqui starring Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor as a leading pair. It was a sweet romantic film that centered on the unstable relationship between two musicians. In spite of having newcomers, the film was a blockbuster hit, where the credit goes to its storyline and chartbuster songs.
Being tagged as highly adult comedy content movie, Grand Masti was appreciated by the masses and also entered in the coveted 100 crore club. Starring the original lead of the 2004 film Masti, actors like Vivek Oberoi, Aftab Shivdasani and Riteish Deshmukh were seen with Bruna Abdullah, Karishma Tanna, Sonalee Kulkarni, Kainaat Arora, Maryam Zakaria and Manjari Fadnis. The film was declared a Super Hit in India by Box Office India.
One of the most awaited sequels of the year, Krrish 3 apparently broke all Box-Office records. This superhero science fiction film featured Hrithik Roshan, Vivek Oberoi, Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut in lead roles. The film was appreciated for its special effects and power-packed performances by lead actors. It was declared a blockbuster hit at the Box-Office.
Dhoom 3 created quite a buzz in the industry. The third installment of the popular Dhoom series featured Aamir Khan in a hardcore negative role for the first time. While Abhishek and Uday reprised their roles as Jai and Ali, Aamir and Katrina formed the antagonist duo. An edge-of-the-seat thriller, Dhoom 3 broke all the records on its opening day, and made Rs. 100 crore in just three days of its release.
