Bollywood filmmakers have time and again attempted to borrow their whole and sole inspiration from the existing films, be it from the yesteryear Hindi films, Hollywood or some southern films. However, restricting to the Southern remakes this time, let's check out the official Hindi remakes of South films that released in the year 2013.
RangrezzDirected by Priyadarshan, 'Rangrezz' is a Hindi film starring Jackky Bhagnani, Priya Anand, Rajpal Yadav and Amitosh Nagpal in lead roles. The story is adapted from the Tamil film Naadodigal, which has already been also remade in Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Bengali. Produced by Vashu Bhagnani the film released on 21 of March, 2013 and didn't go down well at the box office.
Shortcut RomeoDirected and produced by Susi Ganeshan, Shortcut Romeo is an action crime thriller film starring Neil Nitin Mukesh, Ameesha Patel and Puja Gupta in lead roles. This flick is a Hindi remake of director's own Tamil film Tiruutu Payale that released way back in the year 2006. However, this Hindi edition released on the 21st of June, 2013 and got minuscule earnings with barely any earnings at the box office.
PolicegiriComing next is Policegiri which is an official remake of Tamil film titled Saamy. Starring Sanjay Dutt, Prachi Desai and Prakash Raj in lead roles, the film narrates a comical trace of a cop. Produced by T. P. Aggarwal and Rahul Aggarwal, this film also marked to be the Bollywood debut of popular Tamil director K.S. Ravikumar. However, coming to the box office earnings, Policegiri received an extremely poor response from the critics.
Ramaiya VastavaiyaRamaiya Vastavaiya is a romantic comedy film directed by Prabhu Dheva. Having taken its inspiration from Prabhu Deva's directorial debut Telugu blockbuster Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana, the film introduced producer Kumar Taurani's son Girish Kumar, who paired opposite actress Shruti Haasan. Ramaiya Vastavaiya released on 19th of July, 2013 and unfortunately this one too didn't go down well at the box office.
BossLastly, Boss is an action film which is believed to be the remake of a Malayalam blockbuster, Pokkirri Raja. Directed by Anthony D'Souza, Boss starred an ensemble cast including actors- Akshay Kumar, Mithun Chakraborty, Shiv Pandit and Aditi Rao Hydari. The film released on the 16th of October this year and received a mixed response from the critics but collections downed to match the whopping reviews.
