Looks like gone are the days when a Bollywood movie was entering into the coveted Rs. 100 crore club, and a lot of buzz was going around from creating headlines to record breaking spree. The recent trend is Rs. 200 crore club, and thus we present you the movies that crosses this much-hyped mark.
In this edition of Box Office Report Card, we take a look at the films that have managed to break the barrier of Rs. 200 crore. In a comparative analysis, there are just three Hindi movies as of now, who have broken this mark against each other.
The very first movie in Bollywood that entered into the club of Rs. 200 crore was Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor starrer '3 Idiots' (2009) and made Rs. 202.47 cr. In August this year, we saw Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer movie going all guns roaring with Chennai Express. Although it went on to become one of the biggest hits crossing the 200 crore barrier, along with breaking the record of '3 Idiots', we take a look at the more recently released film Krrish 3 which is the new entrant to the club.
Apart from this, below we list a few unusual factoids in relation to the Rs. 200 cr Club members.3 Idiots3 Idiots record of entering the 200 crore club was made after approximately 70 days. Released during Christmas in 25 December 2009, it made Rs. 202.47 crore till March 4, 2010. Aamir Khan achieved this milestone when he was 45 years old, whereas Kareena achieved it when she was nearly 30 year old. Director Rajkumar Hirani achieved this milestone when he was 47 year old. 3 Idiots was released in 1700+ screens.
Chennai ExpressShah Rukh Khan's film entered into the club in just 15 days. Released on 8 August 2013, the movie made Rs. 227.13 crore till 22 August 2013. SRK achieved it near to his 48th birthday, whereas Deepika achieved this milestone at the age of 27 year old. Rohit Shetty achieved it at the age of 40 years. Chennai Express was released in 3500+ screens in the domestic circuit.
Krrish 3Krrish 3 however took just 10 days from its release date to make it into the 200 crore club. Released on 1 November 2013, it made Rs. 206.35 crore till 10 November 2013 (still counting as on date). Hrithik is the youngest actor to enter the club achieving this milestone closer to his 40th birthday. On the other hand, Priyanka, who is currently 31 year old, becomes the oldest actress to be the part of the 200 crore club. Also 64 years old Rakesh Roshan becomes the oldest director/producer to enter in 200 crore club. Considering the above two movies, Krrish 3, on the other hand, was released in 4400 screens in India.
