To officially remake the old-cult Hindi films have become a sort of trend these days. While some impresses among the audience, some just fails at the box office. Check out the top 5 worst and disastrous remakes of the old, cult and classic Bollywood films, which not only had disappointed the viewers, but also had massively failed at the box office.

Himmatwala

Sajid Khan who had impressed audience and as well as critics to some extent with movies like 'Heyy Baby', 'Housefull' and 'Houseful 2' had hugely disappointed everybody by officially remaking the old 1983 blockbuster melo-drama film 'Himmatwala'. The remake version of the same name received extremely negative reviews from critics and viewers, such that it has now officially tagged as one of the worst remakes in the history of Hindi cinema. The original film starred Jeetendra and Sridevi in lead, whereas the remake one starred Ajay Devgn and Tamannaah Bhatia. After the disastrous result of 'Himmatwala', reportedly producer Sajid Nadiadwala had kicked out Sajid Khan from directorship to make the third instalment of the successful franchise of Housefull.

HimmatwalaRam Gopal Varma Ki Aag

'Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag' is considered as one of the biggest disasters in Bollywood. The film was an official remake of the cult movie, Sholay (1975). Aag had an extremely poor opening at the box office worldwide and the film had also marked its name on the chart of "100 worst films ever created". 'Aag' was criticized by critics as well as viewers for the slow and predictable storyline of the film, and how it made a spoof of the blockbuster film Sholay.

Ram Gopal Varma Ki AagUmrao Jaan

The 2006 released film 'Umrao Jaan' is an official remake of 1981 Bollywood classic film, which was directed by Muzaffar Ali. The film failed at the box office and mostly received negative reviews from critics. Many of them reacted critically to J.P. Dutta's direction and the film's long three-hour running time. Moreover, several critics slammed the movie by comparing it with the acclaimed 1981 version. While the old one starred Rekha in lead role, the remake one starred Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Umrao JaanKarzzzz

Himesh Reshammiya and Urmila Matondkar starrer Karzzzz is an official remake of 1980 film 'Karz' that starred Rishi Kapoor, Tina Munim and Simi Gerewal in lead roles. Singer-Music Composer Himesh who was trying his luck in Bollywood as an actor failed to bring audience to the theatre, in spite of adding three more words in the title. The film had a below-average opening, and was labelled as another worst remake of Bollywood films.

KarzzzzChashme Baddoor

Chashme Baddoor is a remake of the 1981 super-hit film of the same name. The new movie revolves around three friends Sid, Jai and Omi (Ali Zafar, Siddharth and Divyendu Sharma, respectively), who live together in a small house in Goa. However the movie did average business, where some appreciated it, and others slammed the movie by comparing it with the old one. Some people have also tagged the film as 'an old wine in a new bottle'. Though 'Chashme Baddoor' can't be called as the worst remake, but certainly can't be called as the best one.
